While my primary focus is on landscapes and people, I occasionally step outside those genres to challenge my perspective. These projects allow me to experiment with new techniques and apply my focus on light and scale to different environments.
Astrophotography
Captured at the Bosplaat Deep Sky Park—one of the few locations in the Netherlands dark enough to reveal the stars—these images are a first foray into the monumental scale of the night sky.

Natalie Romana Albers - Orion over our holiday home
My first ever star photo. I'm extremely pleased with how well this turned out. I love the juxtaposition of the cozy with the cosmic.

Natalie Romana Albers - Milky way dust over dune lake
Technically speaking I blundered with this image, I'd moved the zoom ring while focussing so the focal length was too long for the exposure. However, this had the felicitous effect of 'thickening' the stars a little, making them just a little brighter. I do love the reflection of the distant sky-glow of West Terschelling in the lake though.

Still life
Inspired by the light of the Dutch Masters, my still-life work is an exercise in finding authenticity in the quiet and the everyday. Rather than complex symbolism, I am simply interested in the beauty found in simple compositions and the way light interacts with ordinary objects.

Natalie Romana Albers - Power cut
A power outage in the late evening was an opportunity to see the beauty in the everyday.

Natalie Romana Albers - Pluis
I'm not sure if this is a landscape, or a street photo, or a still life. All I can say is that I saw the light fall on these seed pods and was happy to discover I had a camera in my hand.

Natalie Romana Albers - Project as Art
I had been tinkering with a rack-mounted cluster of Raspberry Pi computers, and noticed the stunning lighting when the lights were off. So out came the camera...
